Passive infrared detectors make use of the fact that any object or body emits a thermal radiation in the far infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum, independent of any lighting conditions. A passive infrared detector can react on changes of the temperature difference against the fixed background as small as a fraction of a degree centigrade.

The Ernitec passive infrared detectors are designed for outdoor perimeter protection with coverage ranges of up to 100 m. They react only on movement into or through a precisely defined curtain shaped field of view and disregard slow changes of the surrounding temperature caused by the weather conditions.

The PIRs can of course be used to generate alarms activating a specific planned action at the CCTV control room at any medium to high security site.

As the PIR does not emit any detectable signals whatsoever and at the same time it resembles a camera housing, it is virtually impossible for a potential intruder to know how the site is protected, hence giving additional security.
